There is a product out there called QBox that allows you to lock and sync the file with multiple locations. As the QuickBooks desktop products seem to be coming closer and closer to an end, I agree that the online version is likely the best way to go. Yeah, that's not multiuser but rather "rapidly changing and coordinated single user". Could be a useful solution for some, though. You can do this with most products. NextCloud for example.

From the use case I've seen that is correct on being a single user product. I did watch the video on the link I posted and it does look like you can still do multiuser as long as the users are all on the same network. The remote user can only access once all the local users are out of the file and it has done it's sync. The file locking is automatic as well which is nice. It basically prevents the outside user from accidently overwriting your changes.

Sure, you can always bypass the sync and do local multiuser, but the humans have to manage that.

So you do not have access to your php settings file? Could you ask them to increase that limit? Seems like a standard thing.

Also, vultr.com offers a full VPS and 50GB of storage for $5/month, might think about going that way if the current host is so limited.

Yes, I have. It was talked about on Security Now a few years ago.

It allows TNO (Trust No One) on cloud storage . You control the keys for encryption. of course, if you don't have the keys, the data is useless.

It is definitely the best free WP backup I have found. I like the fact that it just zips the files so you aren't even dependent on Updraft Plus if you need to restore.

an aside to the Google drive issue,.. there was a window of time this afternoon I was unable to sign into my email. Possible that it was related.

I don't like the idea of having a middle man. Also, how the company makes money is unclear to me and I don't like that.

Pretty cool, that is a really handy service. We use ownCloud here and love it. Being able to integrate other services so that you have a single pane of glass but multiple storage choices is really nice.

I think that the thing here is that it is unlimited, not a small starter amount.

First five users are 1TB per user. Then with the sixth user it goes unlimited.

That's how they make the money. Each user needs an account. So the realistic capacity of usage is relatively limited.
